Breaking News: Caitlin Clark is gearing up for her return to the spotlight, but not on the basketball court! After a season-ending injury, the Indiana Fever star is set to participate in The ANNIKA Pro-Am, marking her first public sporting appearance since her injury. This exciting news has fans buzzing, eager to see Clark back in action.
Tournament officials have confirmed that Clark will join LPGA stars Nelly Korda and Annika Sorenstam at the Pelican Golf Course in Tampa, Florida, on November 12th. This event is particularly significant as it's the penultimate LGPA competition of the season and is open to the public, offering fans a chance to witness Clark's return firsthand.
Clark's participation in the Pro-Am isn't just a casual appearance; it's a strategic move that aligns with her existing partnerships. She's an ambassador for Gainbridge, the event's sponsor, and the namesake of the Fever's arena. This connection highlights the synergy between her brand and the world of women's sports.
"I had an amazing time at The ANNIKA last November and participating in the Pro-Am alongside Nelly Korda and Annika Sorenstam, two of the best in the game," Clark shared, expressing her enthusiasm. "I’m honored to be an ambassador for a company in Gainbridge that is so committed to elevating women’s sports. I can’t wait to return to Tampa in November to play in the Pro-Am with the best women golfers in the world.”
Clark's passion for golf is well-known; she's an avid player, often enjoying the sport during the WNBA offseason. This isn't her first time at the Pro-Am; she previously participated alongside Korda and Sorenstam in November 2024.
Annika Sorenstam also shared her excitement: “It was an honor to play in the pro-am with Caitlin last year. The crowds were amazing, and we are excited for her return to The ANNIKA in November. She added such a great dynamic to our event, and her passion for golf and competitiveness were fun to witness firsthand. I look forward to having her back and continuing to introduce the great game of golf to the next generation.”
But here's where it gets controversial... This event marks Clark's first public sporting activity since July 15, when she suffered a groin injury. This injury, coupled with a left ankle sprain on August 7, unfortunately, cut her season short. The 2024 Rookie of the Year was limited to only 13 games in her second season due to various injuries, yet she still managed to average 16.5 points, 5 rebounds, and 8.8 assists.
Clark is focusing on her recovery and won't be participating in offseason leagues like 5-on-5 Athletes Unlimited or 3-on-3 Unrivaled. She's dedicated to regaining full strength and plans to join USA Basketball for a World Cup qualifying tournament in Puerto Rico in March.
Chloe Peterson, the Indiana Fever beat reporter for IndyStar, provided this update.
